Some time ago, a member of the Friends of the Carp Hills approached Brenda Beattie, knowing that she painted outdoors with a group of West Carleton artists each summer, to see if she would be interested in bringing artists onto their trails to help get more public awareness of the area they were trying to protect. Art and conservation go very well together. Brenda and many artists have painted in the Crazy Horse Trail, the Carp Barrens Trail, and the Hidden Lake Trail. These paintings are a result of these trips.
The Friends of the Carp Hills is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to preserving the Carp Hills for the benefit of nature and community in perpetuity. Without careful stewardship, the special ecology of the Carp Hills could be lost for future generations due to overuse and indiscriminate use. A percentage of sales of the paintings will be donated to the Friends of the Carp Hills organization.
The Exhibiting Artists include: Brenda Beattie, Catherine Gutsche, Erika Farkas, Isabelle Jerome, Iya Carson, Janice Johnston, Kathleen Watson, Kie Delgaty, Kimberly Hamilton, Posy Bennett, Susan Reiter
To purchase a painting please contact Brenda Beattie at 613-299-8113. She will coordinate the sale with the artist. For more information about the Friends of the Carp Hills visit their website here: carphills.com

I love trees, their branches strong but flexible, covered with fragrant flowers in the spring and cool, vibrant leaves in the summer and fall. I love the way they are alive, straining light and creating shade. Trees helped humans forever, and were the original shelters.
And I love flying! My heart takes off with this big bird to go high, high, over the world and embrace it.
I am showing in at least 4 solo shows per year, some in dedicated galleries like Atrium Gallery at Centerpointe and Foyer Gallery. Also successful solo shows are taking place in restaurants and cafes, sometimes invited many years in a row a the same place, like in Good Eats Cafe, Les moulins La Fayette, and others.
As a member of many art associations, I enthusiastically show in every group show in Ottawa and surroundings. Ihave been with Foyer Gallery for 16 years.
I have collectors in Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Canada. I illustrated poetry books published in Canada, Australia, and Romania.
The Heart Institute at the Civic Hospital had a competition for ceiling tiles to be painted for 30 rooms, for patients to see a peaceful scene on the ceiling while they are being treated. I was extremely excited and proud to win one of them, paint it and have it displayed.

Chris Johnson is an Ottawa area artist working primarily in acrylic on canvas. Inspired by nature, her works explore small worlds among forested retreats and vacation destinations.
`Art-making provides me with a method of collecting and cataloguing highlights from my time spent in nature. My wandering is often defined by my habit of search and discovery. My searches reveal favourite things: found objects, mysterious spaces, vivid colour and atmospheric light.
My recent series of work, including studies of local trees and trail-side mushrooms, is a departure from my previous approach and method. A decade of reducing nature to sharp, colour-rich, silhouetted forms using hand-drawn stencils left me missing the immediacy of brushwork. My new work aims to flesh out the form and nuances of light and dark, relying on this tonal work first to create atmosphere. Subtle and transparent layers of colour can then give further life to these spaces.`
Chris continues to experiment on ways to define her sensory experience of landscape.
Chris Johnson is a graduate of Mount Allison University and has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She currently resides in Ottawa, Ontario.

“Although I have been an artist all my life, I feel like I am at a very exploratory stage of my career, and I hope that never changes”. Sarah Moffat
With over fifteen years of experience producing specialty wall finishes, Sarah Moffat has acquired an indispensable knowledge of colour and visual integrity which now inspire her efforts as she turns her attention to working on a smaller, more portable scale.
Inspired by her days at Toronto’s College of Art and Design in the mid-eighties, she has again immersed herself in unconditional expression through a wide variety of techniques and diverse subject matter. This non-conforming attitude infuses her work with a fresh and often child-like freedom, flitting from glimpses of the natural world to pure abstract expressions, solidifying color and form into a highly visual and tactile experience. Even when using traditional materials and subjects, Moffat often incorporates metallic foils and varied textures, adding a unique sense of depth and light interaction.
Born in Toronto in 1966, Moffat’s childhood included time living on a boat in the Bahamas and in a family-run restaurant/hotel in Mont-Tremblant. Moffat now lives and works in Carleton Place, Ontario.

My name is Patricia Fiorino and I am a locol artist and also a teacher with OCSB. I have been teaching elementary and high school students for 23 years. As a passionate artist and teacher, I have always integrated art into education. Six of my teaching years were spent working as the elementary art consultant, supporting art implementation across OCSB schools. I currently work with McHugh School at CHEO and use art as a means to promote mental health, well-being, and self-regulation.
I have always been passionate about art and creativity and can’t think of a time that art, (music, theater, and visual arts), has not been part of my life. In the last 15 years I started to make visual art a personal focus, rather than a teacher focus, and haven’t looked back as an artist since.
It is important to me that my artistic process allows me to play, find joy, heal and discover. In my current works I use alcohol ink, gypsum-based paste, and acrylic paint to play with texture, form, proportion, and color. As a child growing up in Scotland I was always drawn to the beauty of flowers. I loved the movement and color of wild flowers and I remember the joy of making wildflower crowns. They also helped me heal while experiencing trauma in my childhood. Today, whether it is nurturing flowers in my garden, or creating flowers in my art, I am brought back to that childhood sense of joy, wonder and peace. This show is a representation of the power of art to heal, give voice, and the fun of creative play.
